Choosing an FPV motor

The four-digit number in a motor name is the stator size: 2207 means a stator 22 mm wide and 7 mm tall. A bigger stator makes more torque and turns a bigger propeller. KV is how many revolutions per minute the motor makes for each volt with no load, and as a rule the larger the propeller, the lower the KV you want. 5-inch freestyle motors are typically around 1700 to 2000 KV on 6S, while long-range and heavy-lift builds with 10-inch and larger propellers use much lower KV, often a few hundred, on 6S to 12S.

Every motor page lists the stator, KV, recommended battery and propeller size, weight and mounting pattern. Match the motor to your frame's arm mount and propeller size, and pick an ESC whose continuous current rating sits comfortably above the motor's peak draw.
